I am ecstatic to announce that I signed with the incredible team at Undertaker Books to bring my Young Adult sapphic Supernatural x Buffy the Vampire Slayer Southern gothic novel OUR DEVIL'S AWAKE to shelves in 2026!!!
Yep, you read that right. I am going to be a PUBLISHED author!!
Pardon all the exclamation points—as you can imagine, I am over-the-moon that my first novel has found a home and will soon make its way into your hands!
How I got here…
When I first sat down to write Our Devil’s Awake (then titled Red Hollow Road) a little over two years ago, I had the barest inkling of an idea—an average, everyday family responsible for routinely killing a deathless monster they keep in their basement rec room.
I’d never written an entire book on my own before and I confess, the first drafts saw so many mistakes new writers make: too much exposition before the story starts, unnecessary plot threads, a 2-dimensional protagonist…it was a mess, but it was mine.
Fast-forward several (hundred) rounds of edits, beta reader feedback (you guys are amazing and I’m so sorry for all the messy early drafts you had to endure!), honing my craft with the help of podcasts like Fiction Writing Made Easy and the Save the Cat and Story Genius books and a year of querying, I woke up one morning in late November to THE email. Undertaker Books wanted to sign my novel!
I immediately woke up my partner, celebrated with a fancy dinner, and then buckled up to make my final decision.
Fast forward another month, notifying agents, weighing all the pros and cons, and asking a million questions, I made the decision to accept Undertaker’s offer just after Christmas. Ultimately, it came down to their open and timely communication style (I never had to wait more than one business day for a response), the titles they’ve put out (hello, Elizabeth Broadbent and Bram Stoker Award-winner The Triangle by Robert P. Ottone) and the fact that their staff are all talented writers themselves, I have every confidence Our Devil’s Awake has found the perfect home with Undertaker Books.
I can’t wait to share more news soon, including street team and ARC applications, the cover reveal (brace yourselves, it’s going to be GORGEOUS!), and the official release date, so stay tuned!
As always, thank you a million times for being here with me. Your support means everything.
More About Our Devil’s Awake
For fans of Erica Waters, Amanda Linsmeier, C.G. Drews, and Elizabeth Broadbent, OUR DEVIL'S AWAKE follows a sheltered suburban teen who enlists the help of an alluring monster hunter to kill her inherited devil at any cost, including her soul.
The Blurb
Sheltered suburbanite Blythe was ten years old the day she discovered the devilish monster locked in her basement rec room. The red-skinned creature, whom Blythe nicknames Rosie, cannot be killed, only put to sleep by stabbing him through the heart with a stake. But he never sleeps long. Invisible to everyone outside of Blythe’s bloodline, it has fallen to her mother and herself to keep Rosie asleep at any cost.
After her mother’s sudden death, Blythe is the only one who can protect the world from her monster. Heartbroken and forced into a life of solitude, she pushes away everyone she loves, convinced that as long as she guards Rosie, she will never have the meaningful romantic relationship she’s always longed for. But just weeks before her 19th birthday, she receives a pre-recorded message from her mother that sends her to the picturesque town of Winchester, a place that may hold the key to Rosie’s permanent demise and Blythe's chance at a normal life.
Blythe immediately falls in love with Winchester and its inhabitants, particularly the alluring monster hunter Elsie Audley, owner of a cryptid museum slash oddities shop and the first person she’s met outside of her own family who can see Rosie, too. But in the moss-cloaked forests and towering cypress swamps of Winchester, a new threat emerges that Blythe and Elsie must stop together. As Blythe’s connection with Elsie deepens and she learns the truth about Rosie’s past, she will have to face not only Winchester’s monsters, but her own demons. How much is Blythe willing to sacrifice for the woman she loves, including her soul?
